While we believe God to be alive and active in our world, and the main way He is involved is through His church. With this fundamental belief, Bethany Christian School is involved in mission and community outreach. Each year, BCS students participate in Operation Christmas Child where they are able to pack shoeboxes with toiletries, toys, and school supplies. Christian literature is then placed in every box. They then find their way into all parts of the world where they are taken by plane, boat, donkey, horses, and/or camels where children have never heard the Gospel of Jesus.
Students have also participated in the ACSI Day of Hope: each student was given one dollar from the school with a request to multiply it for missions. Students found all different ways of multiplying their dollar: lemonade stands, bake sales, and garage sales. They also cleaned house, did yard work, gave their birthday money, and gave dollar bills from their Chinese New Year celebrations. Students raised over $1900 to be sent to impoverished Christian schools around the globe.
In addition to school-wide events, both the elementary and middle school departments are involved in bringing hope to our world. Some elementary classrooms sponsor children abroad to meet their needs both materially and spiritually. Middle school students have been involved with community organizations, i.e., Food for the Hungry, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Sunshine Acres Children’s Home, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Mary’s Food Bank, and Project Cure.
